Gerry Beckley of the group America will be our special artist guest on Those Were The Days this Saturday night. America won the Grammy award for the best new group of 1972 after the success of the song ‘A Horse With No Name’ and a number one debut album. They were up against Loggins And Messina, John Prine, Harry Chapin, and the Eagles! One of their number one songs is also one of my personal faves ‘Sister Golden Hair’ from 1975. Enjoy the hits of America on Saturday night.
Recently we have been getting a number of older Country songs requested. Our rule of thumb has alway been that we will play it if it made the Top 40 charts. Johnny Cash had several songs that were played on the rock n’ roll stations. Tunes like I Walk The Line, Get Rhythm, Ring Of Fire, and A Boy Named Sue all crossed over. Patsy Cline had several records that had success outside of the Country field. An artist such as George Jones or Merle Haggard did not have the same cross over appeal. Listeners are some times confused when they hear Johnny Cash and wonder why I wont play their request. Feel free to call Beau on Sunday nights during his Old Country program and he would be glad to play something for you.
I will look forward to hearing from you on Saturday night. Request a song from the 50’s through the 80’s rock and roll.
