
The River Valley girls basketball team claimed victory over Richland Center 61-53 on Thursday night. The game was competitive through out with the Hornets battling back from a 17 point deficit to get within 7 points midway through the second half. After the Blackhawks built a more confortable lead again, Richland Center battled back and lost by just 8 points at the games final buzzer.
The leading scorers for River Valley were Ella Myers with 15, Brooklyn Stokes added 13, and Heidi Hegland had 12 points. Rounding out the double figure scoring was Bella DaVinney with 10 points. Also in the scorebook last night was Elizabeth Gostomski with 5. Brooklyn White, Kalia Blakely, and Rosie Spahn all had 2 points. The Blackhawks struggled at the free throw line as they shot 5 for 22.
The Hornets had a balanced attack with Kylie Burns scoring 15, Ellavy Weiss had 12, and Ella Clements totaled 11. Addie Board had 8, Taylor Wertz scored 2, and Ava Martin added 1. Board, Burns, and Clements all made two three pointers. The Hornets were 13 for 22 at the line.
River Valley won the JV1 game 51-14 over the Hornets in the early game.
With the 61-53 Varsity win, River Valley is now 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference. They will host Platteville on Tuesday. Richland Center is winless through 3 conference games. They are 2-11 overall. They will play at Wauzeka-Steuben tonight.
