In the year of ’79, I was a great locker room member of the Ithaca Bulldog football team. My Panasonic tape recorder went everywhere, and it was with me the night we broke a long losing streak with an overtime win at Barneveld. Luckily, I had We Are the Champions by Queen for the bus ride home. That fall I won the role I was born to play in the school musical. You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown was a memorable production. I played Snoopy. The Ithaca 4-H was preparing for a Halloween bash at the town hall and on the radio Atlanta Rythm Section had a remake of the song Spooky. Other radio favorites of my ruffian friends and me were, Cruel to Be Kind-Nick Lowe, Hold On-Ian Gomm, Bad Case of Loving You-Robert Palmer, Drivers Seat-Sniff n’ the Tears, Tusk-Fleetwood Mac, Good Girls Don’t-the Knack, Good Times-Chic, Arrow Through Me-Wings, Let’s Go-Cars, Sail On-Commodores, and Lonesome Loser-Little River Band.
Saturday night during Those Were the Days on WRCO, I will be tripping back to 1979 and the best of the 1950’s through the early 1990’s. Listen for the magic cow bell and help us with the play list between six and midnight on FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and the Civic Media app.
