For the first couple of hours Those Were the Days will be on location Saturday night at the Starlite 14 Drive Inn in Richland Center. During that stretch we will be talking about favorite movies, outdoor movie memories, and some classic 70’s and 80’s film hits will be playing. We invite all of our friends to stop by and see us. You could win a Those Were the Days t-shirt and other prizes. You don’t have to stay for the double feature if you would just like to visit and enjoy the music and festivities. If you bring your high school graduation photo, you will be admitted to the double feature of movies for just $2.00! They are calling it a class reunion night, and the first movie is an 80’s iconic picture called 16 Candles. It is truly a comedy classic, and the 2nd is the long-awaited Spinal Tap 2.
I have many memories of going to the outdoor theatre with my family. Later while attending with friends, I recall watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Someone decided to run through the cars with a running chainsaw. I had never heard screams like that before (I wasn’t the only one screaming)! My love of movies has been growing since I was a wee-Nee. Here is my list of favorite that I never get tired of watching films. 1. Almost Famous 2. American Graffiti 3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 4. The Natural (a nod to the late great Robert Redford) 5. Rio Bravo (John Wayne, Walter Brennan, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson!!) 6. The Blues Brothers 7. Hoosiers 8. Pirate Radio 9. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 10. Napoleon Dynamite That is a list of various genres. I have never been a huge fan of westerns, however, there are 2 on my list because of the tremendous stories they tell.
I hope to see you at the Starlite on Saturday night. We will start Those Were the Days at 5:30 and have some fun with music, movie talk, and various shenanigans. If we don’t see you there, perhaps we can talk later. The request line at the studio will be open until Midnight during Those Were the Days. The best of the fifties through the mid-90’s will be in living color on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and on the Civic Media app.
