Snapping Back to 1980

In September 1980, I was the starting center for the mighty Ithaca football team. Never did I have the wrong count to snap the ball, it was the other ten guys! My high school sports career was extremely mediocre; however, it was a great experience for me and gave me knowledge about the game that I have used for nearly forty years as a broadcaster. While I was snapping the football in the fall of ’80, there were plenty of tunes to snap my fingers too. Another One Bites the Dust by Queen was an anthem of all of Ithaca’s football opponents that season. Other favorites at the postgame record hop were Let My Love Open the Door-Pete Townshend, All Over the World-ELO, I’m Alright-Kenny Loggins (from Caddyshack which was a fave flick of my ruffian friends and me), Misunderstanding-Genesis, You Better Run-Pat Benatar, and You Shook Me All Night Long-AC/DC. Many of my buds would self-install car stereos. Often times there was a bad buzz from an improper ground. You usually only heard this in between songs. Secondhand speakers were often placed on the rear window ledge of the automobile, and they could be pulled out to place on the car roof for instant party music. Fall was in the air, and I actually had a date once in a while. In my spare time I would make her a mix tape with attempted funny quips in between songs. This also prepared me for a nearly forty-year broadcast career and for the goofy stuff that goes on the radio each weekend.

I hope you will party with us Saturday night between six and midnight. Those Were the Days on WRCO will be assembling a playlist from the fifties through the early nineties. Can you help us out? Call or text between six and midnight. Each hour we will feature a tough trivia question that can net you a fine prize. Ready? Break….ready, set, hut one, hut two…. here is a look out block…look out!!!!
