As winter began losing its steam and spring began to creep in on the old Willow Valley farm, mother would send little Philip out to play. Rushing water from the melting snow was a great place to float boards. My dad would be upset because some of his scrap lumber washed away to Twin Bluffs and beyond. When the winds of spring began to lessen, I could be daring and lift my little ear flaps but still wear my aviator style hat. There were years when I did this prematurely and sunburned my ears. I was not the most photogenic child, and it hurt my looks even more when my ears were pealing. With my ear covers lifted, I could hear the radio hits even better in the mid to late 1960’s. This weekend on WRCOs’ Those Were the Days radio show, I will be spinning a few of the great hits from early 1965. Some of my favorites include, This Diamond Ring-Gary Lewis and the Playboys, My Girl-Temptations, Eight Days a Week-Beatles, King of the Road-Roger Miller, All Day and All of the Night-Kinks, Laugh Laugh-Beau Brummels, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood-Animals, Love Potion #9-Searchers, and Shotgun-Junior Walker and the All Stars. The mid 60’s featured a lot of Top 40 magic and we will try to bring some of that back Saturday night between six and midnight.

It will be great to be back with you live in the studio Saturday night. We will also have state championship high school wrestling. WRCO is proud to still be live and local with a call-in request show and high school sports. Last Saturday the show was on Memorex. It was fun counting down the hits of early 1975 including songs that aren’t played often. We stayed in Wisconsin Dells and the granddaughters, and I listened to the show on my portable radio. We had a dance party and ate chips. I hope you will tune in 100.9, wrco.com or download the Civic Media app. and listen Saturday night. Get ready for some fun this weekend. I hope you don’t sunburn your ears.

Phil
