On Those Were the Days radio this Saturday night on WRCO, I will be co-oping with Kent Kotal from forgottenhits.com for a countdown of favorite bubblegum hits. Over 9,000 votes were cast for classic songs that are still chewy. Many of the songs from that era were deemed ‘lightweight’ by music artists of the day. Lots of well-known groups have covered bubblegum songs through the years. One example is the group R.E.M. and their version of Superman which was originally recorded by the Clique. My Those Were the Days show will feature the Top 40 Bubblegum hits according to the readers of Forgotten Hits. I will be featuring snippets from artists that have been on the show for insight into the era. Some of the music will come from the likes of Tommy James, Ohio Express, Tommy Roe, the Archies, Andy Kim, the Sweet, the Monkees, and the 1910 FruitGum Company. The salute to Bubblegum countdown will air between 6:00 and 9:00 Saturday night. Later in evening I will countdown the Top songs from the fall of 1972. This is a set of songs that is near and dear to me. That is the first countdown that I ever copied down as the d.j. on the radio counted them down. I dreamed that someday I would be able to host a countdown on the air. Yes, I was a rather nerdy child who also kept score while the Brewers were on the radio. My collection of countdowns and baseball score books did not help my dating chances!

Join me for a six-hour tribute to the greatest music ever cut on vinyl. We have another family wedding that I will attend this weekend. Those Were the Days will not be taking your requests this Saturday night. Hold on to those until next weekend. We continue to hear from new and long-time Saturday night listeners. I appreciate everyone. Thank you for being there. Enjoy the many events in Southwest Wisconsin!
