Man stuck in mud near Blynn Road in Arena rescued, no medical transport needed
Thursday at 9:48 AM, the Iowa County Communications Center received a report of a man stuck in mud up to his shoulders near the creek crossing at Blynn Road, just north of U.S. Highway 14 in the Town of Arena.
The victim, a 57-year-old Madison man, had attempted to walk across what he perceived to be solid ground to a fishing spot. It turns out, the area consisted of deep mud, causing him to become trapped and unable to free himself. Investigators determined the man had been trapped for nearly an hour when he was discovered by a passenger in a vehicle traveling across the Blynn Road bridge.
The rescue was assisted by the reporting party, a local realtor who was passing by, the realtor provided several of his real estate signs which responders used to help stabilize the muddy ground and create a safer working surface.
The victim was freed from the mud, he was released without requiring transport to a medical facility.
