Richland County Administrator, Tricia Clement, reported that Human Resource Director, Tracey Long, started working for the county on February 9, at last night’s (Tuesday) County Board meeting.

She also reported that the public survey is available on the campus property on the county website. The survey will close at the end of this week. Please complete the survey if you have not done it yet. This will help SEH gage what the community would like to see happen at the campus property. The process to demolish the buildings at the campus property has begun. The plan is to demolish the classroom building, Library and Science building. The future of the Coppertop is in question. The original plan was to see if there would be interest in repurposing the building but with the cold snap last month, the building had significant issues with water pipes bursting. The process to survey the campus property to complete the sale to the Richland School District has also begun. Clements also reported that discussions with the municipalities on the future of the ambulance service continues. At the meeting in February a third party provided an overview of their service and shared what it would look like if they came to the county. The next meeting will discuss what the county run service would look. Clements also recognized the years of service from John Heinen to Richland County.

The Richland County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution dealing with Wisconsin’s aging Interstate highway system, largely constructed in the 1950s and 1960s, and the county’s extensive network of state and local roads which require predictable, adequate, and sustainable funding to meet current and future needs. The Richland County Board of Supervisors is strongly urging the Governor of Wisconsin and the State Legislature to enact a comprehensive, sustainable transportation funding solution that: Provides adequate and reliable revenue growth for the efficient long-term planning and execution of state and local transportation programs; Includes responsible and prudent use of General Purpose Revenue and bonding; Adjusts any new and existing transportation user fees and other revenue mechanisms to sustain purchasing power in order to maintain and improve Wisconsin’s transportation infrastructure; and ensures transportation continues to deliver for Wisconsin by adequately funding reconstruction, preservation, and safety investments on the state and local systems. The Richland County Board of Supervisors voted to have the clerk transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor’s office, and all members of the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly representing districts within Richland County.

The Board of Supervisors also approved the Highway Department to purchase a Western Star tandem-axle truck at a cost of $165,635 from Truck Country.
