Last second shot misses mark, Ithaca out lasts Seneca

The Ithaca boys basketball team won a close battle over Seneca on Thursday night in Ridge and Valley league action by a final of 60-58.

The visiting Royals led 29-19 at halftime, before the Bulldogs started strong in the second half and took the lead. The teams exchanged leads down the stretch. Senecas’ last lead was 56-55 with less than one minute left.

Caden Keller made a three point basket to put Ithaca up 58-56 with 38 seconds left. The Royals Gage Wall made a two pointer to tie it before Ithacas’ Devin Ihm scored a bucket and later blocked a shot that would have tied the game with just over 2 seconds left.

Seneca missed a 3 pointer at the end as they went for the win.

Devin Ihm led Ithaca with 19 (16 in the 2nd halft), Hewston Boland had 17, Caden Keller scored 8, Keegan Jones and Sam Jones each had 4 points, and Ethan Birkrem scored 2 points.

The team made 7 three pointers and went 5 for 11 from the line.Senecas’ Jackson Konichek had 15 points, while Gage Wall added 14, and Hunter Hagensick scored 10. The Royals made 5 three pointers and went 9 for 11 from the line.

Following the 60-58 Varsity win, Ithaca is now 2-3 in the league and 5-6 overall. They will play Brookwood Monday. Seneca is now 1-4 and 4-7 on the season. They will host Weston on Tuesday.
