OSHKOSH, WI—(WISS)— The streets in downtown Oshkosh would have been lined with revelers and filled with marching bands and floats Thursday night (December 4, 2025). However, the Downtown Oshkosh Business Improvement District canceled the Oshkosh Holiday Parade on Tuesday due to dangerously cold weather forecast for parade day.
“After careful consultation with the City of Oshkosh Administration and Police Department, weather experts, and parade partners, the BID determined that proceeding with the event would pose unnecessary safety risks to participants and spectators,” a press release said. “Forecasts show temperatures and wind chills falling well below safe levels for extended outdoor activity. Many parade units, including youth groups, marching bands, volunteers, and families, as well as public service professionals, would face significant risk of cold-related health issues.”
The weather forecast for Wednesday calls for snow and a low of 7 degrees. The expected high for Thursday is 10 degrees, and the temperatures will drop below zero during the evening and overnight hours.

The BID said it would not reschedule the parade, but encouraged people to participate in Reindeer on the Square in Downtown Oshkosh on December 13.
Despite the cancellation, the Downtown Oshkosh businesses will remain open on Thursday evening to offer festive holiday specials, seasonal shopping, and warmth.
