WAUSAU, Wis (WXCO) – More tornadoes were confirmed to have made landfall from the May 15 storms, raising the total number of tornadoes that day to 15 across Wisconsin.

In Bancroft, located just southeast of Wisconsin Rapids, a tornado touched down over a largely open area. With little damage indicators, it was given an EF-0 rating with 65 mph winds. The NWS La Crosse offices say trees were tossed across a road near the start of the path that leads into the area.

That evening alone brought four EF-2s, six EF-1s, four EF-0s, and one EFU that tore through the state. Credit to Rikki Van Dyk of New Richmond for the following video:

The National Weather Service is now using satellite data to see if they can find any other paths of possible tornadoes. Now that the clouds are gone, they’ll have an easier time investigating other areas. So, it’s possible some other tornadoes may become evident with time.

For now, we’re at 15 tornadoes from last week’s event, bringing the state to 22 total for the year. Wisconsin usually averages about 23 per year. However, last year we broke the record with 45 tornadoes. June is the peak month for tornadoes in the state.
