After request from toddler, Madison adds art to two garbage trucks
MADISON, Wis (WMDX) – Two Madison garbage trucks have a new look, thanks to a toddler.
It all started when 4-year-old Fred sent a letter to Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway’s office asking for a different color trash truck in his neighborhood. “I would prefer a purple trash truck or a rainbow-colored trash truck,” the letter read. “I love the blue one, but a new color would be exciting too.”
The mayor’s office talked with the Streets Division, and they decided to try something: they looped in Madison Arts, and planned to put art on the side of some trucks. One depicts the Madison skyline, the other shows a turkey exploring.
“By turning our collection vehicles into mobile galleries we can share the work of talented artists in our community with our community,” Rhodes-Conway said. “When you write us, call us, or email us with a good idea, we will do what we can to put that into practice.”
The newly-decorated trucks are now on duty.
There are even coloring pages available for parents to print. Kids can color them in, and send them to the Streets Division.
