We have an action packed Those Were the Days show planned for Saturday night. During the first hour I will welcome a guest d.j. (one of the high bidders in the recent Walk with Grace radio auction). This mystery guest will spin an hours' worth of their favorite hits. Starting at 7 pm the request line will be open for everyone to pick a song they would like to hear.
This week's theme will be 'classic songs that have been used for key movie moments'. I love it when movie makers effectively use a song which impacts the scene. The movie Almost Famous features an iconic scene with Elton John's Tiny Dancer. This film is my favorite of all time and there are several other scenes where the songs add to the storyline. Other examples include The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel in the movie the Graduate. Stuck in the Middle with you is in a memorable scene in Quentin Tarantinos Reservoir Dogs, and Twist and Shout steals the show in Ferris Buellers Day Off. Guardians of the Galaxy is a movie series with the best soundtracks ever. Mr. Blue Sky by E.L.O. is a key song in the second movie of the series. There are many other songs that have gained new life in films such as Day-O (The Banana Boat Song), and Old Time Rock and Roll. Do you have have any ideas or examples? Let me know on Saturday night. Music and movies are two of my favorite escapes!
I have had a movie idea in my mind for many years. Growing up in the seventies and coming of age in the eighties in a rural farming community has never been tackled. I have so many funny stories which I am sure people would assume were made up or embellished. Most of my memories really happened. The only movie that came close to capturing this was Dazed and Confused (another fantastic soundtrack). That film was set in a small town in Texas in 1976. For my imaginary movie I already have the soundtrack picked out. If any Hollywood types are reading this, just give me a call. I will sell the rights for a bottle of Ski and a Mallow Cup.
Let's have some fun Saturday night! After a busy week it is always fun to kick back with the greatest music ever made. We made more memories last Saturday night. It was great to hear from Milwaukee and our dedicated listener in India checked in on Sunday morning (their time). My youngest requester will start first grade in a couple of weeks. Those Were the Days will hit the airwaves at six Saturday night. I will once again imagine that I am Wolfman Jack in the movie American Graffiti eating melting popsicles and giving a shout out to the blonde driving the white T-bird.
