When I was just a ‘wee Nee’, I loved to ride with my dad on the tractor while he did the farm chores. In October of 1969, the harvest was under way. Although it was bumpy ride, I would ride in the corn wagon around the corn field while my dad drove the picker. It was an amazing time for me to be able to be with my hero who instilled in me what a good day’s work looked like. It was at this time in my life that I really started paying attention to what was on the radio. The first song that I can ever remember on the radio was ‘Don’t It Make You Want to Go Home’? by Joe South. That was on the radio on a regular basis in October of 1969. Looking back on that time it seems that I was a fan of nostalgic, melancholy, and sometimes sad songs. It was not that I was depressed, but it seems that I was always an old soul. I would hear the folks and grand folks talking about the depression and the World wars and how tough life was. It seemed to me that they still had a lot of good times back then, and I always loved tv shows and movies that were set in those eras.

This week on Those Were the Days, I will flash back to the Top Forty chart from October of 1969. There were many great songs from iconic artists such as the Beatles, Stones, Sly and the Family Stone, Three Dog Night, and many more. Hear for yourself this Saturday night between six and midnight on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and the Civic Media app. We had lots of new friends check in the last couple of weeks. Tell your buddies to remember us this weekend. We have a radio party every week. We will be harvesting the hits!
