Labor Day weekend is the last hurrah before the fall season. It is a time to enjoy some rest and relaxation. During Those Were the Days on WRCO Saturday night, we will pay tribute to the working folks with a few songs that mention working, jobs, and rest time from the job. Many songs have mentioned hours spent toiling while looking forward to being with loved ones. Examples include, Working for the Weekend-Loverboy, Takin Care of Business-BTO, Manic Monday-Bangles, Five O’clock World-Vogues, A Hard Day’s Night-Beatles, Summertime Blues-Eddie Cochran (Blue Cheer and the Who), Get A Job-Silhouettes, Working in a Coal Mine-Lee Dorsey (Devo), Blue Collar Man-Styx, Working For a Living-Huey Lewis, and Working Man-Rush. While you are hanging out doing fun stuff this weekend, I hope you will tune in Those Were the Days on WRCO, WRCO.com, and on the Civic Media app. Some have asked me about working every Saturday night over the years. The fact is that is not work when you love what you do, and I am able to share my music collection that has been growing for well over fifty years. By playing my records and cds at my job, I can justify to my wife June why I keep (she says hoard) so many tunes.

I will be in the studio Saturday night from six to midnight and your help is needed to program another unique night of music. Last week we heard from long distance listeners from Minong, Kenosha, Wisconsin Dells, and all of Southwest Wisconsin. We have cool prizes for the winners of the trivia challenges. Happy Labor Day weekend.
