The summer of 1964 was a tremendous time for Top 40 rock n’ roll. The British had arrived, but American groups like the Supremes, Drifters, Four Seasons, and Beach Boys were fighting back. The Beatles new movie ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ was just released that August. It was and is a fun movie with the fab four acting like the Marx Brothers and singing great songs. At the Democratic National Convention, the party nominated incumbent President Lyndon Johnson and U.S. Senator Hubert Humphrey as his running mate. In November they would face Republicans Barry Goldwater and William Miller. Muhammed Ali was the heavyweight boxing champ, and the St. Louis Cardinals were on the way to a World Series championship. The year of 1964 was very eventful. I was just a wee Nee, approaching my first birthday.

This Saturday night I will be honored to play a few of the radio hits from 60 years ago. Some of my favorites include: Such a Night-Elvis, House of the Rising Sun-Animals, Because-Dave Clark Five, It’s All Over Now-Rolling Stones, Under the Boardwalk-Drifters, and A Hard Day’s Night-Beatles. Those Were the Days on WRCO Fm 100.9, WRCO.com, and on the Civic Media app., will be back to blast all of the hits from the fifties through the early nineties. We will have six hours together. The Green and Gold postgame show will not keep us down this week!!! Let’s get into a little mischief this Saturday night between six and midnight. Tough trivia, requests, great music, and a summer night in Wisconsin. It does not get any better than that!
