Hackney Diamonds in the name of the Rolling Stones new album. This year marks the 60th anniversary for the group and the 7th decade that they have a charted album! I did not have high expectations for the new album, but I found it to be very good. Many of the tracks would have been right at home had they been on any of the 70’s or 80’s releases. This has inspired me to feature the Stones as our guest band on WRCO this Saturday night. Over 5,000 vinyl albums ago, my cousins gave me my first. They no longer listened to it and were going to throw it away. This 33 1/3 platter was the Stones first greatest hits album ‘Big Hits-High Tide and Green Grass’. Since it was my only rock and roll album, I played it over and over. This led to a lifelong hobby (illness) of collecting music. One of my high school albums was ‘Tattoo You’ which was released in August of 1981. I used to listen to this on my Realistic under dash cassette player while cruising around in my 1975 Ford Maverick (‘hey ladies’). I have since collected most of the albums from the Greatest Rock and Roll band of all time. I will be spinning a few gems from Mick and the fellows during Saturday night’s Those Were the Days episode on WRCO.
Thanks to everyone that made last week’s show so much fun. The variety of the requests was incredible and all I had to do was weave them together. Our longest distance requester was listening in Missouri. If you have some time, I hope you will join us Saturday night for radio memories, trivia, live requests, and the Rolling Stones Saturday night on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and the on the Civic Media app.
