I am the very grateful host of WRCOs' Those Were the Days and I can't wait to pull out more hits of the fifties through the eighties this Saturday night. My record collecting hobby is now more than fifty years old and I have never tired of it. Recently I bought my first new vinyl record in Richland Center in a long time. Mastodon Records is open weekends in downtown in the former location of Ocooch Books. Good luck to Craig because I am like a stray dog and when there are records available, it is hard to stay away. Maybe we will have to do a live Those Were the Days from there some day!
December of 1969 was a great time for Top Forty music. Just ahead of the seventies music was changing often. The Billboard chart from the second week of December is chocked full of groups that were well established and new artists. Some of my favorites include: Come Together-Beatles, Cherry Hill Park-Billy Joe Royal, I Want You Back-Jackson Five, Heaven Knows-Grass Roots, Up On Cripple Creek-The Band, Baby It's You-Smith, Try A Little Kindness-Glen Campbell, Fortunate Son-C.C.R., Whole Lotta Love-Led Zepplin, and A Brand New Me-Dusty Springfield. We were saying Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye to the sixties and the one hit wonder group Steam topped the chart. I was very well behaved in December of 1969. I was hoping that Santa would bring me a Billy Blastoff Doll and he eventually did! Billy was a great toy and he ran a moon car and other vehicles with his little back pack that included two c-cells. Some dummy left the batteries in for 30 years and they leaked which ruined Billy. I still have him, but he can not run like he used (much like his owner).
I will be in the studio to take your requests. Give me a call if you would like to add to the Those Were the Days playlist. You could be the winner of some really cool prizes between six and midnight Saturday night.

Hey Rock and Rollers! Thank you Phil for the Shout Out. It's a thrill to share records in downtown Richland Center again. It's been fun to dig the crates out of the closet, a project that will continue for weeks/months ahead, and bring these into shop weekly.
I really enjoyed hearing the single version of "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream tonight. Nice nod to John Lennon on tonight's show! Another great show tonight!

It is a thrill to find an old record that has not been played for a bunch of years and give it a spin on the radio. Thanks to Craig at Mastodon Records in downtown Richland Center.
