APPLETON, WI- (WISS) – Communities throughout Northeast Wisconsin will start testing their outdoor warning sirens and systems in the coming days and weeks.
Outagamie County’s Emergency Management Department will resume outdoor warning siren tests tomorrow (Saturday, March 29, 2025) at noon. The Winnebago County Office of Emergency Management will start testing on Saturday, April 5. Brown County tests its sirens on Wednesdays at Noon.
Agencies will cancel the tests if the area is experiencing severe weather or other emergency conditions.
Outdoor warning sirens are not intended to be heard inside homes or businesses. Authorities recommend that residents obtain NOAA weather radios or a local weather phone app for severe weather alerts.
The state of Wisconsin’s annual statewide tornado drills are April 10 at 1:45 pm and 6:45 pm. The tests are during Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week. These drills allow citizens to practice their tornado and severe weather sheltering plans. Authorities encourage schools, businesses, and homes to practice going to their nearest tornado shelter during the drills. They say to act as if an actual tornado warning were in effect. Ideal tornado shelters include a basement, a ground floor interior room, or a specially constructed safe room to withstand high winds and falling debris.
Check with your local county or municipality for questions on specific outdoor warning sirens or tests.
