Wisconsin Supreme Court candidates Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel have agreed to meet for a debate next month.
The debate is set for Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. and will be hosted by WISN-TV in Milwaukee.
Both candidates are vying to replace retiring Justice Ann Walsh Bradley. The race is being widely watched – across the state and the country – as it could shift the state Supreme Court’s ideological balance. Currently, the Supreme Court has a 4-3 liberal majority after Justice Janet Protasiewicz won a seat in the April 2023 election.
Both candidates are currently judges in county circuit courts. Crawford is a Dane County Circuit Court judge and a former prosecutor. Schimel is a judge on the Waukesha County Circuit Court and was the former state attorney general. Schimel was appointed to the court by then-Gov. Scott Walker after he lost his bid for reelection as attorney general to Democrat Josh Kaul in November 2018.
The spring election is set for April 1.
