Former Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy Confirmed As US Transportation Secretary

The U.S. Senate confirmed former U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy as secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation on Tuesday.

The Senate approved Duffy’s nomination with support from both Republicans and Democrats. The vote was 77-22.

According to the Associated Press, Duffy pledged to make Boeing airplanes safer, to reduce regulations and to assist U.S. manufacturers develop self-driving cars.

President Donald Trump nominated Duffy, 53, in November, shortly after his election victory. In a post on his Truth Social social media site announcing Duffy’s nomination, Trump called him a “respected voice and communicator.”

Duffy had represented Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District from 2011 to 2019. He resigned in the fall of 2019 to help care for his newborn daughter, who was born with a heart ailment.

Since leaving Congress, Duffy has worked as a contributor at Fox News and co-hosted the program “The Bottom Line” on the Fox Business Network since last year.

Before serving in Congress, Duffy served as the Ashland County district attorney and was reelected four times.

Previously, Trump said in a statement that Duffy would work to “rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and usher in a golden age of travel.”
