Babcock Dairy Expands Recall in Ice Cream Mix-Up

Customers have found Orange Custard Chocolate Chip inside their cartons of Peanut Butter Chocolate. That means there's not a correct allergy warning on the label.

MADISON, Wis. – The recall of Babcock Dairy ice cream has expanded.

Earlier this month, a customer opened their container of Chocolate Peanut Butter to find Orange Custard Chocolate Chip inside instead. That customer called Babcock Dairy, and staff started looking into it.

There’s nothing wrong with the ice cream itself. Because the wrong flavor was in the wrong container, the allergy label and ingredients were incorrect. Orange Custard Chocolate Chip requires a label stating that it contains eggs. Otherwise, people with egg allergies could be at risk of reaction.

At first, the company believed the problem existed in just one lot of ice cream. Now, they know there are two.

These two lots were created on September 17 and September 30. That makes it easy to find which ones are at risk of the labeling error. If you have a half-gallon marked 09 1724 or 09 3024, you can take it back to where you bought it for a full refund.

The ice cream was sold at Babcock Dairy, Metcalfe’s, Ken’s Meats & Deli, and Capitol Centre Market.

Staff from Babcock Dairy said they’re increasing training for employees after the mix-up.
