Eric Holder discusses how the rights of Americans could erode with the partisan overreach included in Project 2025 on The Maggie Daun Show

He is a staunch advocate for voting rights and the fight against partisan gerrymandering. Former US Attorney General Eric Holder is now warning about the potential impact of Project 2025. This includes a threat to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and its independence in upholding the rule of law. Holder served from 2009 to 2015 under the Obama administration and joined Maggie Daun, host of The Maggie Daun Show to discuss his concerns.

“The rule of law is everything,” Holder says. “The DOJ must remain impartial and objective to ensure that Americans’ rights, particularly their right to vote, are safeguarded. Project 2025 would erode these protections by making key positions beholden to political whims. It would undermine the integrity of federal law enforcement and government agencies.”

Holder also points out implications of a politicized civil service. It would affect everything from health care access to reproductive rights.

“If for no other reason, people need to vote to ensure that Project 2025 does not become the law of the land,” Holder explains.

He also tells Daun his experience helps support the importance of fair-minded judges in upholding democracy. And one example is in the aftermath of the 2020 election. Trump’s legal challenges ended up being overwhelmingly rejected by the courts.

“We won 60 cases in 2020, and we’re prepared to do it again,” he says. “Trust in the judiciary but also remain vigilant against future threats.”

And Holder reminds voters to choose the candidates who will defend democracy and uphold the rule of law, not only at the national level but in every race on the Wisconsin ballot, too.
