GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW) – By just making a few changes, you can improve the health and function of your brain. This week is Brain Awareness Week, marking the perfect opportunity to start taking small steps for big results.

Kelsy O’Donnell-Mauthe with The Brain Center of Green Bay says that making small changes can help improve brain health and function.

“You don’t need to get crazy by going out there and trying all the different brain foods. You could do avocado; add some turmeric in there. Do some dark chocolate,” says O’Donnell-Mauthe.

The brain is a muscle that needs to be worked just like other muscles need to be used to stay healthy. The Brain Center of Wisconsin lists what they call the “Pillars of Brain Health:”

  • Quality fuel & nutrition
  • Physical exercise
  • Restorative sleep
  • Cognitive stimulation
  • Stress management
  • Avoidance of injury, illness, and toxins

To take advantage of the free programs and coaching offered by the Brain Center of Green Bay, O’Donnell-Mauthe says to visit the website or call to get paired up with a coach. She says it is never too early to start trying to improve brain health.

“We’re so proactive about the rest of our body,” said O’Donnell-Mauthe. “But when it comes to our brains, we’re just so reactive. We wait until the very end to be like ‘Oh my goodness! We need to do something!’”

As part of the celebration of Brain Awareness Week, the Brain Center of Green Bay is offering its 2nd Annual free community event at the Green Bay Botanical Garden from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. “The Brain Awareness Event, Take Charge of Your Brain – It’s Kind of a Big Deal” showcases ways to keep brains fit throughout life.

The Brain Center is a non-profit community resource dedicated to helping people maximize their brain health and wellness throughout life through free coaching and community programs.
