In August of 1981, I was an all-star center for the Ithaca football team. The opposing teams liked to clean their cleats as they ran over me. I was usually at the bottom of the pile. Never did I have the wrong snap count. The other ten guys were wrong once in a while, but not me. As I lay on the turf with 21 players laying on top of me, I was usually dreaming about the record hop dance after the game. There were lots of cool tunes that late summer and fall. Some of my faves that ran through my head while I was taking a beating include, Start Me Up-Rolling Stones, Jessie’s Girl-Rick Springfield, the Stroke-Billy Squier, Urgent-Foreigner, the Breakup Song-Greg Kihn, Fire and Ice-Pat Benatar, Hold on Tight-ELO, and In the Air-Tonight. The kick butt mix tapes that I made were awesome back then!

I hope you will join Those Were the Days Saturday night from six to midnight when I live in the past. Tune in for trivia, requests, and some radio mischief on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com and the Civic Media app. We will hike our way back to 1981 and play all of your favorite jams from the fifties through the eighties!
