Groups By the Numbers

During the history of rock and roll there have been many groups with numbers in their name. Since I have hosted my Those Were the Days radio show which began in 1986, it is difficult to feature a theme that we have never used. I had a light bulb moment this week when I began thinking about the number of groups over the years with numbers in their name. Off the top of my head, I started to make a list. This began with about 10 and then it continued to blossom. As I write this the list has grown to forty and by Saturday night it may bloom even more! Some of the most famous are, 4 Tops, 4 Seasons, 3 Dog Night, Dave Clark 5, New Colony Six, Jackson 5, UB40, U2, Classics 4, .38 Special, 10,000 Maniacs, B-52’s, and 5th Dimension. That is a wide variety of musical styles from different eras of the rock and roll years. If you have any suggestions of group names with numbers, let me know.
Saturday night is the best time of the week. It is when we all get together and not act our age. There are so many friends that I have met through the Saturday night program. I would not know them if we met on the street, however, we know each other’s voices. Those Were the Days will hit the airwaves Saturday night on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and on the Civic Media app. This week we give a shoutout to Southeastern Wisconsin and the Hart Foundation. They listen to us online during the winter months. When the weather shapes up, they hear us in the 608 on FM 100.9. They have been dedicated listeners for quite some time. We have many regulars including Mark and Valerie, Mark and Pam, the gang at Hootin’ Hill near Lancaster, Wild Will, Charlie (who is a dedicated reader of this blog), Shari (the Wild Woman of Woodman), and Farmer Brad. Thanks to everyone for their dedicated listening. We will ‘Kick Out the Jams (MC 5) this Saturday night. Join us for trivia and requests on Those Were the Days.
