MILWAUKEE (Civic Media) – Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers spoke on the final day of the 103rd State Education Convention and highlighted increases in education funding in the biennial budget signed into law last year.
Evers, who was the state superintendent before becoming governor, detailed the different ways in which the state budget provided more funding for public education, such as an increase in per-pupil aid and a slightly higher reimbursement rate for special education.
School funding was the overwhelming theme of this year’s education convention, with a number of sessions and workshops for school district administrators and board members focusing on finance, referendum, and budgets. Other popular topics included staffing, student achievement, and communication.
Evers’ message called for supporting students and funding public education, common themes in his speeches during his time as governor. Last year, Evers spent part of his time on stage pushing his vision for the state budget, but this year’s speech focused on the gains made in educational funding with the 2023-25 budget signed into law.
