Saturday November 2 the World Community Day hosted by Church Women United/Family Thrift Shop will be held at St. Mary’s Keysville Church beginning at 9:00.
Saturday, November 2, the Brewer Public Library is celebrating 55 years with an anniversary open house from 10:00 to 2:00 sponsored by Friends of the Library and Foundation. A free will donation chili lunch will be held from 11:00 to 1:00, or until gone. There will also be live music with Monty Berger. The booksale room will be open, offering a buy-a-bag fill-a-bag special. Also, pick up your free copy of Borgia Rose: The Poisoning of Richland County by local author K.D. Allbaugh – the book selected for the next Community Read.
The Buena Vista Lions Club will host its second Annual Halloween Party in Gotham Saturday, November 2, from Noon to 4:00. There will be a costume contest with winners voted on at 3:45 and winners revealed at 3:50 at the Buena Vista Town Hall. Weather permitting, the party will be held at the Buena Vista Bicentennial Park in Gotham. If inclement weather, it will be held in the Town Hall.
Register today for the third annual Great Midwest Crane Fest, Celebrating Community and Conservation, in Baraboo November 8 and 9 as thousands of Sandhill Cranes gather near the Wisconsin River before flying south for the winter. Participate in guided crane-viewing tours, presentations, workshops and more. Festival admission for Friday and Saturday is $50, or $30 for just Friday or Saturday. Save $10 per general admission ticket by registering before September 30. Festival registration includes entrance to the Aldo Leopold Foundation and International Crane Foundation and events at each site, including presentations and tours of the Cranes of the World and historic Leopold Shack. Monday, November 4
The Lone Rock 130/133 Bridge project has announced a river navigation update. The north channel will be closed to river navigation for bridge demolition operations and will remain closed through late November. The south channel is now open, though the water is shallow through the channel opening along the south riverbank. Please take caution, motorized boats are not recommended.
Vernon County Over 50 will hold Tai Chi Exercise at Bethel Home Fellowship Hall in Viroqua each Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 to 1:45. It will be livestreamed to the Ontario and Readstown Public Libraries. For more information call 262-384-0082.
UW Extension Educator Sarah Kubiak will lead a two-part Financial Planning Workshop at the Brewer Public Library: Budgeting on Monday, Nov. 4 at 5:30, and Financial Goals on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 5:30. Park Street Christian Church will host a non- partisan non-denominational Prayer meeting for the United States of America Monday, November 4, from 6:30 to 7:30.
The River Valley Area Community Gardens encourages pre-registration for 2025 garden plots. 10’ x 10’ plots rent for $20 a season. 10’ x 20’ plots are $40 for the season and 20’ x 20’ plots are $60. The fee includes straw mulch, manure/compost, organic fertilizer, water to each plot section and hoses as well as the use of a rototiller and other tools. Print registration forms are available in the INFO BOX at the Gardens located in the 900 block of North Westmor, Spring Green. Tech Help Tuesday will be held every Tuesday at the Brewer Public Library from 9:00 to Noon. Get basic help with all apps and devices. Walk-ins are welcome. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Brewer Public Library at 608-647-6444. There is no charge for this service.

Lead Outreach Biologist Stephanie Schmidt will share an overview of the Whooping Crane outreach program from Wisconsin to Alabama at the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo. Schmidt will introduce you to the outreach team and share their goals and where work is being done along the flyway. She will also provide an update on threats to Whooping Cranes and the outreach strategies for mitigating these threats, including poaching, powerline collisions, disturbance, and habitat loss and degradation. The Richland Hospital & Clinics Employee Experience Team is holding a community food drive through November 8. All nonperishable food items can be donated and dropped off Monday through Friday. Donations may be dropped off at The Richland Hospital & Clinics Volunteer Desk, the Muscoda Health Center, and the Spring Green Medical Center. Food will be donated to the Richland Community, Muscoda, and Spring Green Food Pantries.
Weekend Workshop at Taliesin: Chocolates and the World of Cacao will be held Friday through Sunday, November 8 – 10. The workshop will delve into the art and science of chocolate-making with award-winning chocolatier Gail Ambrosius. Cost for those 18 and over is $1,500 and includes breakfast and lunches, workshop instruction, guided tour, guestroom on the estate and welcome reception in the main house. Richland School District Foundation and Richland Center High School present Grease: School Version Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9, at 7:00 and Sunday, November 10, at 2:00 in the RCHS auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door. Activity tickets will not be accepted. Tickets are $6 for ages 6 and under and $10 for ages 7 and up. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the show.
The Kickapoo High School Choir will perform a fall variety show, “Can’t Stop the Feeling” Friday and Saturday, November 8 & 9, at 7:00 at the Kickapoo School Auditorium. Free will donations will benefit the food pantry and Kickapoo music department.
Saturday, November 9
The 2024 Cultural Landscape Legacies annual tour will begin at the historic Battle of Wisconsin Heights site from the Black Hawk War of 1832 on Saturday, November 9, beginning at 9:00 AM. The site is located on STH 78 a short distance from Sauk City. In addition to the tour, the group will visit the Native American burial grounds on the property before traveling to Ferry Bluff for a hike to Cactus Bluff to view the landscape and the route of flight across the river taken by Black Hawk’s people. Following lunch in Spring Green, the group will tour the shot tower at Tower Hill State Park and discuss the role of Old Helena in the Black Hawk War. A Wisconsin State Park sticker will be required for the final stop. Reservations are required and the tour is limited to the first 15 people to sign up. The Ocooch Mountain Humane Society’s Paws Fur the Holidays will be held Saturday, November 9, from 10:00 until 2:00 at the Richland Center Community Center. This year’s Paws will feature a Sweet Walk, kid-friendly activities, a Bucket Raffle, a Silent Auction, a food stand, and much more. In addition, Santa will be on hand to hear Christmas wishes and for pictures.
Dan Kouba and the Journeymen will be playing a Veterans Tribute Concert at the Richland Center City Auditorium Saturday, November 9. The show starts at 7:00 and doors will at 6:00. The cost of the show is $20 per person, and all tickets will be sold at the door. All proceeds will benefit local Veteran efforts. Refreshments will be sold at the event.
Knights of Columbus Council 3492 will be hosting Bingo Saturday, November 9, starting at 6:30 at the Richland Center Community Center. The progressive blackout jackpot will be $500 + 50% of net sales in 49 calls or less. It is also customer appreciation night.
Sunday, November 10
The Ash Creek and Willow Valley United Methodist Churches will hold a Birthday Bash Potluck and Celebration Sunday, November 10, at Noon in the Willow Valley church basement. It is a social gathering for the churches to collectively celebrate all birthdays within the congregation with cakes provided by Willow Valley’s chapter of United Women in Faith. Any attendees should bring a dish to pass at their table.

Agrace will offer “Bridges,” a professionally led, virtual grief support group for adults who are grieving the death of any loved one. Bridges will meet Wednesday, November 13, from 9:30 to 11:00 via Zoom. There is no fee for this program if a participant’s family member was in hospice care in the past 12 months; fees for others can be lowered or waived, if needed. Pre-registration is required. The Vernon County Health Department will be offering “Wellness Screenings.” The screening includes cholesterol and blood sugar levels, as well as an assessment of blood pressure and discussion of risk factors for heart disease. Vernon County Health Department will be offering screenings the second Thursday of the month from 7:30 to 10:30. A $10 donation is requested, but not required. The Wisconsin Secure Program Facility in Boscobel will host a Blood Drive with the American Red Cross Thursday, November 14, from 10:00 to 3:00. The Blood Drive will be located in the M-Building at the East end of the parking lot.

The Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board will conduct a regular monthly business meeting Thursday, November 14 at 5:00 in the LWSRB Conference Room in Muscoda. Vernon County Over 50 will present Protecting Paradise in the Driftless with author, Marcy West. As Executive Director of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve in it’s formative years, she helped develop the 8600 acre KVR. The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County offers a free support group for individuals diagnosed with either early-stage dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment. The support group provides an opportunity to learn more about your diagnoses and share your experiences with others on a similar journey. Richland Center’s Rotary Lights in the Park will be held Wednesday, November 27, through New Years Eve. The exhibit will be open each night with walk-thru’s from 6:00 to 6:50 and drive-thru from 7:00 to 9:00. However, please note new this year, the first three Mondays, December 2, 9, and 16, will be drive-thru only. Also Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand every Friday and Saturday.

Aldo Leopold Nature Center’s Holiday Market will be held at the picturesque children’s environmental education center, Sunday, December 8, from 9:00 to 3:00. The Holiday Market features dozens of local, sustainable artists and vendors presenting their finest wares in a cozy atmosphere. Admission and parking is free.

Maggie Mae will be performing at the Richland Center City Auditorium Sunday, December 15, at 2:00. The afternoon will also include The Sawmill Creek Band with Eric Nofsinger and special guest Leroy “Elvis” Petersen. Tickets priced at $25 per person can be purchased on-line at Eventbrite.com or locally at Christy’s Sunnyside Bakery, Napa Auto Parts, and will be sold at the door as available. A group rate for 10 or more people is also available. All proceeds from this concert will be used for building restoration of the Richland Center City Auditorium.
