Due to the Town of Buena Vista Garbage & Recycling staffing shortages, and a brief truck breakdown, if your garbage was not picked up by the end of the day Saturday, April 11, please make sure bins are at curbside by 6 AM Monday, April 13.

St Philip’s Church will host a Pancake Breakfast Sunday, April 12, from 8:00 to 11:00. A free will offering will be accepted. Mass will be held at 9:00. St. Philip’s church is located at 42678 Church Road, Soldiers Grove, WI near Rolling Ground. Carry outs will also be available.

The Loganville Area Fire Department will host a pancake breakfast Sunday, April 12, from 8:00 to Noon at the Loganville Village Hall. Dine in or drive thru will be available. Cost of the breakfast is $10 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under, and free for preschoolers.

Ridge and Valley Beekeepers will meet Sunday, April 12, at 1:00 at the Gays Mills Community Commerce Center. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome. Please contact [email protected] with any questions.

The final Sunday Funday Dance of the season will be held Sunday, April 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Richland Center Community Center. All dances are taught; no experience or partner necessary.

The RCHS Class of 1968 will host a Scholarship Fundraiser Sunday, April 12, from 1:00 to 5:00 at the Phoenix Center in Richland Center. The afternoon will include a bake sale, raffles, silent auction, and dancing. Music will be provided by Monty Berger and The Country Gold Band. Admission is a $10 donation.

The Richland Concert Association will host The RidgeTones, the Driftless Region’s eclectic vocal ensemble, Sunday, April 12, at 2:00 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Richland Center.. They perform an inspiring mix of music from classical and jazz to folk, madrigal, and spiritual songs. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 for adults, and students under 18 are admitted free with a paying adult.

The Hillsboro Public Library and the Hillsboro C.A.R.E.S. have joined to start the Hillsboro Community Theater. Members have been working with a group of focused children ages of 7 to 15 to bring the production of to ‘The Enchanted Book Shop’ by Todd Wallinger life. A performance will be held Sunday, April 12, at 2:00 in the Hillsboro High School gymnasium. Free will donations will be accepted at the door. In addition, there will be a bake sale at intermission. The donations will be used to fund future plays and theater for the Hillsboro Community.

Kickapoo Cowboy Church presents Gary Froiland Sunday, April 12, at 6:00 at the Old Oak Inn Banquet Hall in Soldiers Grove. Kickapoo Cowboy Church will continue on the first Sunday of the month through December at 6:00.

Monday, April 13

The City of Richland Center is advising residents that no parking will be allowed from 7:00 until 5:00 on Monday, April 13, Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16 on the following streets: North Cedar, North Chestnut, North Church, North Oak, North Walnut, South Sheldon, and 2nd through 9th Streets. These restrictions are in place to allow a contractor to complete cleanup of excess pea gravel from yards and roadways following the City’s 2025 street chip sealing project. Residents are asked to keep vehicles off these streets during the posted times to allow crews to work efficiently.

The City of Richland Center’s first monthly large item pickup begins Monday, April 13. Republic Services will begin collecting on Monday, April 13 and return on Wednesday, April 15 to finish any remaining areas. Please have items placed on the curb by 6:00 Monday morning. Residents are reminded there is a limit of 5 items per pickup and each item must be less than 50 pounds and manageable by one person. Excluded items include freon appliances, hazardous waste, yard waste, construction debris, and tires. Items exceeding these limits or including prohibited materials will not be collected. Residents with additional or overweight items may contact Republic Services directly to schedule additional pickups, or transport items to their Boscobel location.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County offers a free social group for individuals with early-stage dementia. The social group meets on the second and last Mondays of the month from 10:00 to 11:30 at the McIntosh Memorial Library conference room in Viroqua. The social group provides an opportunity to meet other people on a similar journey and share life stories with each other. Spouses, adult children, and friends are encouraged to join the group, too. Richland Area Retired Educators’ Association will meet Thursday, April 16. Registration will begin at 9:00 with the program beginning at 9:30. The guest presenter for the event will be Al Cornell. Welcome to Medicare will be held Monday, April 13, at 1:00 at the Richland County Health and Human services building. The presentation will go over when to enroll, how to enroll and what each part of Medicare is and what it covers. This interactive session allows for participants to ask questions they may have about this program. All participants receive resources that will assist them in their Medicare journey. Community members, parents, caretakers and children are invited to a free educational series titled Building Connections to Reduce Anxious & Depressed Feelings. The series helps gain knowledge & coping skills to increase connection and to decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression. Each session will offer a group discussion with key questions for parents and caregivers while youth are participating in adult-led screen-free activities. Session 2, Importance of Play & Social Connection will be held Monday, April 13 at the Richland Center Community Center. The session starts at 5:30 and a free community dinner will follow. Registration is now open for garden plot for the 2026 season. 10’x10′ ploys rent for $20/season, 10’x20′ plots are $40 and 20′ x 20′ are $60. The fee includes straw mulch, use of the rototiller and other tools, manure/compost, organic fertilizer, water to each plot section with hoses–and friendly, experienced gardeners who are always ready to offer advice or a hand. The Viroqua Chamber invites you to pitch it at Viroqua SOUP.
On Tuesday, April 14, from 5:00 to 7:00, neighbors will gather for soup, community, and creative ideas. For a $5 donation, attendees will enjoy soup and bread while listening to short pitches from local dreamers, doers, and problem-solvers.
Then the crowd will vote and the winning idea will receive 100% of the evening’s donations to bring their project to life.

The Busy Bees Garden Club for kids 3K-4th grade who reside in the River Valley School District is again being offered at the River Valley Area Community Gardens. The Club meets weekly on Tuesdays, June 9 through July 28, from 9:15 until 10:15. A Meet and Greet is scheduled for Sunday, May 17 at 3:00. Each child gets their own 2’ x 4’ raised bed to grow plants of their choosing. Along with tending the beds, each session includes an activity. The focus is on fun as well as gardening. RVACG provides a variety of seeds and plants and the use of garden tools. A parent or caregiver must accompany the kids to the sessions. The cost is $10 per child or $15 per family. The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County offers a free Dementia Caregiver support group. Monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month, from 3:00 to 4:00 at the Hillsboro Public Library community room. The Viola American Legion will host a pancake supper Wednesday, April 15, from 4:30 to 6:30ish at Viola Legion Post 447. A free will offering will be taken to support youth activities and scholarships.

Shake Rag Alley will host a Makers & Shakers Art Party: Gemstone & Wire Pendant Wednesday, April 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Lind Pavilion. Make a beautiful necklace for yourself or a loved one. Learn how to work with 20 gauge wire, make a double bail, and design your pendant using a gemstone, accent beads, findings, and wire. All tools and materials are provided, including the cord necklace. Additional necklace kits can be purchased for $3 to $5 each. Go home that night wearing your own work of art. Friends of Brewer Library will meet Thursday, April 16, at 3:00 in the basement meeting room. The meeting will conclude by 4:00.

The Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will be at Ithaca High School the third Thursday of each month beginning at 4:00. Due to school activities and traffic at that time, Mobile Pantry guests are not permitted to park near or on school property before 3:30. Park in line until directed to proceed. There are no restrictions, everyone in need is welcome, no matter where you live. No ID or proof of income is required.

Walk with GRACE planning committee meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 at the GRACE Office above Royal Bank in downtown Richland Center. Team captains or representatives are always welcome.

Friday, April 17

Southwest Wisconsin Community Players will present performances of Snow White Friday and Saturday, April 17 & 18 and 24 & 25, at 7:00 and Sunday, April 19 and 26, at 2:00. All performances will be in the Richland Center City Auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door priced at $10 for adults, $5 for children under 18 and $25 for two adults and any number of children.

Saturday, April 18

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit will host the 14th Annual 5-K-9 Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run will at the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, on Saturday, April 18. The 1⁄4 mile Kids Fun Run for kids 11 and under will begin at 9:00. Medals, trophies, & ribbons will be awarded. Immediately following the Kids Fun Run the 5K Run/Walk will begin. All events begin and end at the Sheriff’s Office. There are men’s and women’s age groups for all ages. Medals will be awarded for men and women in each age category. Anyone interested in participating in the event can find a pre-registration link or registration form on the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit Program Facebook page. Forms are also available at the Sheriff’s Office. Registration the day of the event is $20 for ages 12 to 17 and $30 for anyone 18 and older. Children 11 and under are free. No t-shirts will be available. Registration the day of the event will be from 7:30 to 8:45. All proceeds will benefit the Vernon County K9 Unit- K9 Kota and K9 Dax- for annual maintenance, training, & equipment costs.

Reedsburg United Methodist Church will host a Family Fun Day Saturday, April 18, from 1:00 to 3:00. There will be free games, food, and crafts.

This year’s Crane Count is Saturday, April 18. This annual survey of Sandhill and Whooping Cranes spans over 150 counties in seven states, including Wisconsin and portions of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota. From Endangered to Abundant—the State of the World’s Cranes in 2026 webinar with Dr. Rich Beilfuss, President & CEO of the International Crane Foundation, will be held Wednesday, April 22, at 2:00. Dr. Beilfuss will provide an overview of the status and distribution of each of the world’s 15 crane species. He will share population numbers and trends, ongoing and emerging threats, and some of the unique stories behind the struggle of each species to survive and thrive in the modern world.

Town of Willow Spring Clean-up, Garbage & Recycling Event will be held Saturday, April 25, from 8:00 to Noon at the new town garage in Loyd. All items accepted at the Richland County event will be accepted at the Town of Willow event, including scrap metal. However, tires will not be accepted. There will be no charge, but donations will be accepted.

Savor the River Valley will host its fourth Annual Earth Day Farm & Food Tour on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 to 4:00. This is a free, family-friendly, self-guided, behind-the-scenes tour through 11 farms and food processors in the Driftless area. The tour allows people to meet folks producing food in ways that protect the soil, water, air and communities. Participants will be able to take a wagon ride, visit baby animals, see cheese being made and grain being milled; learn about regenerative farming, raising pastured meats and agro-forestry.; explore an orchard; visit a kitchen garden; participate in perennial crop research; purchase plants to grow at home; and eat many delicious treats such as ice cream, truffles, smash burgers and wood-fire pizza. Friends of Kickapoo Valley Reserve willl celebrate Poetry Month Saturday, April 25, beginning at 2:00 with Youth Poets and the Wisconsin Poet Laureate, Brenda Cárdenas at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Visitor Center. Local Youth Poets of Merit along with the Wisconsin Poet Laureate will read their poetry for those who attend. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the Earth Day activities that will follow, including Earth Day Crafts for children, kite flying, family Earth Day games, guided nature hikes and more. The Vernon County Health Department offers “Wellness Screenings” the second Thursday of the month from 7:30 to 10:30. The screening includes cholesterol and blood sugar levels, as well as an assessment of blood pressure and discussion of risk factors for heart disease. A $10 donation is requested, but not required. Students in River Valley Schools Grades 5-12 are eligible for FREE 10’ x 10’ garden plots at the River Valley Area Community Gardens. Monday, May 18

Nursing staff at The Richland Hospital is collecting gently used shoes and boots to raise money for G.R.A.C.E. Collection bins are located in the front lobby of the hospital, Muscoda clinic, and Spring Green clinic. The shoes will be repurposed in developing countries to provide jobs and help improve communities. To meet the goal, 1, 600 more pairs of shoes are needed by May 18th. All proceeds will go to G.R.A.C.E.

Ensemble Dal Niente in Concert and Discussion will be held Sunday, May 31, from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Hillside Theater at Taliesin. The concert will offer an opportunity to experience the ensemble’s distinctive and boundary-pushing musical voice within one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most acoustical and architectural spaces. Following the concert, an open conversation will explore the intersections of music and architecture. General admission is $42 plus fees of $4.29. Students in River Valley Schools Grades 5-12 are eligible for FREE 10’ x 10’ garden plots at the River Valley Area Community Garden. Water, fertilizer, and mulch are included as well as the use of community tools. Mentors are available to teach gardening skills. Immerse yourself in the world of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Spring Green estate with a celebration of all things that make Taliesin special. A Day at Taliesin will be held Saturday, June 6, from Noon to 4:00. Enjoy a wide variety of family-friendly activities including an independent walking tour and scavenger hunt, guided Hillside and Kitchen Garden tours, crafts and activities, and entertainment in Hillside Theater. Food for purchase from Riverview Terrace Cafe or bring your own picnic lunch. Tours of the Taliesin home are not included; option to purchase discounted Guided and Self-Paced House Tours for June 6 with registration. Space is limited. Guests who have purchased tickets in advance should arrive directly at the Hillside School for registration. Internationally published travel and architectural photographer Andrew Pielage will be at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin to to teach the basics of sunset photography hands-on.
