MADISON, Wis. – Police are increasing patrols at MMSD schools after a threat surfaced naming Madison, although it was directed toward and written from Madison County, Florida.

According to Madison Police, they started getting calls from citizens who were reporting a social media post. That post threatened a school shooting at Madison schools.

Police, working with the school district, started working immediately. They quickly learned the post came from Madison County, Florida, and was in reference to Madison County schools.

Authorities here got in contact with police in Florida. According to WCTV in Tallahassee, officials there arrested a 13-year-old for the threat.

Madison officers believe there’s no threat to the safety of students in the Madison Metropolitan School District.

“It is understandable that parents, students and staff may still be concerned given recent national events,” Lt. Caleb Johnson said in an incident report

Officers on patrol plan to spend extra time around schools Monday.
