OSHKOSH, WI – ( WISS) – The 48th annual Artistry in Wood Carving Show is coming to the Oshkosh Convention Center on Sunday, May 5th from 9 to 4 pm.

Richard Krummick, a board member of the Mid-Wisconsin Chippers, says the event will help to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organization of artists, wood carvers, and pyrographers.

“We have approximately 80 members,” said Krummick. “Most are from the Fox Valley area, some from Door County, Eagle River. I think one or two are from Illinois. So we have quite a group, men and women.”

Participants will see demonstrations of woodworking, carving, and pyrography, which is also known as wood burning. There will be artwork for sale. Vendors will be selling books and tools. Carvers and artists will also compete in 27 different categories.

Krummick hopes families with children will attend the Artisy in Wood Woodcarving Show because the club would like to see more young people involved in the artistry.

“We’re looking for young kids; boys, girls, moms, dads, to look at what is being displayed by all of these artists. We consider ourselves to be wood artists,” said Krummick. “It would be neat for them to see it. They can talk to the people!”

Krummick says that many woodworking clubs are looking to find ways to bring young people into the hobby.

“We’re thinking of somehow getting out there more with the young people to bring them into the club and have classes with them,” said Krummick. “Some of the clubs are starting to reach out to the youth. So, we’re working hard at that. It’s something that’s really on our agenda.”

Admission to the 48th annual Artistry in Wood Carving Show is $5 for adults. Children who are 12 years old and younger will get in free.
