Richland School Board December 17th Meeting

The Richland Middle School and Richland Center High School will not be reconfigured in the Richland School District.

After several public hearings and hearing input from the community and staff, it was the consensus of the Richland School Board that this is not the time to move the middle school to the high school.

As for reconfiguring the elementary schools from attendance based to grade level schools, the board felt more study needs to be done through strategic planning. Board members said that questions that were brought up through the public hearings need to be answered before any decision can be made and there must be collaboration between all involved. Board member, Paul Corcoran, said that a change must be made for the sake of academics only and not for economics or Title money. He also stated that the attendance based elementary schools are doing a great job of involving families and communities. Through the strategic planning process, the board hopes to use ideas that have been brought out and to work with staff on what an elementary model of reconfiguration might look like.

Todd Ostrander, Director of Technology for the Richland School District, presented a report to the board on how the district is meeting Wisconsin Act 143 requirements and the annual review of School Safety Plans. Act 143 requires public and private schools to submit required information to the Office of School Safety overseen by the Department of Justice.

The Richland School Board approved:participation in the 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey and bus routes for the 2018-19 school year.
