Local Veterans Day Events

Special events will be held throughout southwest Wisconsin in honor of its veterans. Veterans Day is actually Saturday, November 11th but many schools will celebrate early.

Kickapoo High School will hold its annual Veterans Day program on Thursday (November 9) at 10:30 AM in the high school gym. The event speaker will be Richland County American Legion commander Cecil Groves.

St. Mary School in Richland Center will hold a Veteran's Day program on Friday morning (November 10) at 9:00 AM in the school gym. Major General Cecil Richardson will be the guest speaker. All are welcome to attend.

Richland Center High School will hold its annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday (November 10) in the Richland Center High School Fieldhouse beginning at 10:00 AM. Guest speaker will be retired Msgt USAF Sandra Kramer. The community is invited to attend the program. Those attending should park in Lot A and enter through the East Commons.

Boscobel High School will hold a Veterans Day program on Friday (November 10) at 10:00 AM at the high school gym. Everyone is welcome to attend.

On Friday (November 10) from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Campus Programming and Relations will host a free Veterans Day meal. Veterans at UW-Platteville or those from the surrounding area can present their military cards to the staff in the Markee Pioneer Student Center’s Pioneer Haus to receive a free meal. Attendees can choose between a hamburger, cheeseburger or grilled chicken basket.

Lone Rock will dedicate its Veterans Memorial on Saturday (November 11) at 10:00 AM at Garrison Park in Lone Rock.

The Southwest Wisconsin Marine Corps Association will host a Marine Corps Birthday Celebration at the Richland Center American Legion on Saturday (November 11). A meet and greet will be held at 11:30 AM with a meal at 12:30 PM. All marines and their guests, those who have served, are serving, or plan to serve in the near future are welcome to attend.

The Missfit Dolls Roller Derby Team and the Yuba Fire Department will host an all you can eat chili feed in honor of Veterans on Saturday (November 11). Serving will run from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Yuba Community Center. Pre-sale tickets are available for $8 and may be purchased at Turbo's Bar and Grill in Hub City, and D&D's Pub in Yuba, from Yuba Fire Chief Jim Huffman or any of the Missfit Doll members. Tickets at the door will be $10 for adults, $6 for veterans, and $5 for children five and under. A portion of the proceeds will go to Vets Roll.

The Arena VFW and Auxiliary Post 9336 will serve a steak and chicken fry at 514 Willow Street in Arena from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Cost for a steak is $12 and chicken is $8. There will also be a full salad bar and dessert table. Carry outs will be available by calling 753-2225.
