River Valley Community Gardens

With the spring season officially here, it's a time for gardeners to begin preparing for the upcoming planting season.

One organization that is gearing up for the gardening season is River Valley Area Community Gardens, which supports and provides opportunities for gardening activities within the River Valley School District. It operates a community garden site on the corner of North Westmor Street and Locust Drive in the village of Spring Green. In addition, River Valley Area Community Gardens aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through nutritious food and lasting social relationships in a relaxing environment, provide active stewardship of the garden site, and educate the River Valley community about organic gardening practices and the various fields associated with gardening. At this time, the organization is seeking gardeners that would be interested in participating in its garden allotment program.

Those interested in participating in the allotment gardening program but have not done so prior to this year must submit a registration application. The deadline to apply is May 1st. Those that have already participated and would like to again participate this year must also submit an application, and must do so by Saturday, April 1st. Applications are available online on the River Valley Area Community Gardens website. Applications can also be picked up at the Spring Green Village Hall during normal operating hours. All paper copies should be mailed to RVACG Treasurer Sheryl McCarville at P.O. Box 611 Spring Green, Wisconsin 53588. To complete the application process, all new and returning applicants are required to attend a pre-season informative meeting, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 1st at 10:00 AM in the library of the Spring Green Community Church. Additional information on the work of River Valley Area Community Gardens along with information on allotment gardening is available on the organization's website. (rvacg.weebly.com)
