CWD CDAC January 11th Meeting

The Richland County Deer Advisory Council will join 71 other Deer Advisory Councils around the state this week and next to discuss the ongoing issue of chronic wasting disease in the deer herd.

The local Richland County meeting will take place January 11th at 7:00 PM in East Hall of UW-Richland. For over a year, the local CDAC's have focused on quota and permit levels for individual county units.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources recently completed a 15-year Chronic Wasting Disease Response Plan – which guides the DNR's approach to addressing CWD in Wisconsin's wild deer herd. On Wednesday night, the Richland County council will consider current CWD data, recommendations from stakeholder-based CWD Response Plan Review Committee, and online public feedback on the response plan when developing action item recommendations. Action items in the plan cover topics such as CWD surveillance and monitoring, hunting season tools, captive deer regulations, safety, research, and public involvement.

Council response plan recommendations will be presented to the statewide CWD Response Plan Review Committee later this month, and then the Natural Resources Board in March. Again, Richland County's special CDAC meeting will be on Wednesday (January 11) night beginning at 7:00 PM in East Hall of UW-Richland.
