Upcoming River Valley School Board Meeting

The River Valley School Board will have a lot to consider when it meets this Thursday, December 8th.

In addition to the regular business items on the agenda Thursday (Dec. 8) night are a pair of action items that deal with the long-term landscape of the district. One calls for consideration and action on a resolution to close River Valley's Lone Rock Elementary School effective at the end of the current (2016-17) school year. A second similar resolution calls for the closure of the Arena Community Elementary School after the 2017-18 school year.

By a 52-to-48% margin, River Valley voters last month turned down a 4-year referendum that would have infused more than $9.3-million into the district to maintain the current educational programs, facilities, and equipment. Approval would have helped keep the community elementaries open for at least the next few years.

As always, the school board will take public comments; however, because of the expected interest in the school closing topic, comments will be limited to three minutes per person. The River Valley School Board is scheduled to meet at 7:00 PM Thursday (Dec. 8) night at the high school new gym in the Village of Spring Green.
