Richland Center Fire Explorers Promotional Open House
The Richland Rangers Fire Explorer Post 2016 will hold a promotional open house at the Richland Center Fire Station Wednesday evening, October 12th.
The goal of the event is to educate those in attendance about the Richland Rangers Fire Explorer Post 2106 in an effort to increase the number of youth in the Explorer Post. Fire Exploring is a hands on learning program that exposes young people to fire and emergency services. It offers those with an interest an opportunity to serve their friends and neighbors while learning about a possible career in the fire service.
Those who attend this special promotional open house will see and hear demonstrations from Explorer advisers, members of the Richland Center Fire Department, and Explorer members. Demonstrations will include a live fire – extinguisher demonstration and the Explorers will have three short demonstrations on things they do to help firefighters at the station and at fire scenes. In the Explorer program, members participate in a variety of extensive firefighting training which includes: fire safety, CPR, fire extinguisher use, ladder safety, hand hook use, teamwork, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) use and maintenance, fire hose use, safety around large vehicles, fire suppression and prevention, building construction, and much more. However, one original rule is still enforced, no Explorer member is allowed to enter into a burning structure.
Members of the Richland Rangers Fire Explorer Post 2106 are involved because of an interest of serving the community. They meet twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Richland Center Fire Station. There is no financial cost to participate. Unfortunately the number of members is at a dangerously low level. Everyone involved wants to see the program continue. It is the hope of the Post that members of the local media, school principals, and guidance councilors will attend the open house to offer fresh ideas to expand the group.
