Veterans Recognition of Richland Center

The City of Richland Center was honored Monday, September 26th by veterans for its care and service to veterans.

Marshall Huckaby and Scott Rathjens are members of the Long Range Reconnaissance Association – a veterans group dedicated to reconnect former service members with other team members. Whether it's through the American Legion Flag Park, the Richland County Military Memorial, or being the first Purple Heart City in the nation, Huckaby – who is from Perry, Georgia – said Richland Center has gained the attention of from groups throughout the country, and it only felt appropriate to recognize those efforts.

The two men presented Richland Center Mayor Paul Corcoran with a pair of appreciation plaques. The mayor said it's the veterans themselves themselves who pour their own heart into the community, and the feeling of appreciation is mutual.

Peter Walsh of Walsh's Ace Hardware was also recognized for his service to vets – including the Purple Heart parking space outside his business. Mayor Corcoran said that that opportunity will soon be extended to other businesses in the community.
