Badger Boys State Mayors Elected

A pair of local high school students have been elected to leadership positions at the 75th session of the Badger Boys State youth leadership program in Ripon.

Richland Center High School's Yevheniy Mizin and Reedsburg High School's Micah Pahl were both chosen to be mayors after days of campaigning and debate. Mizin was elected mayor of the fictional City of Thomson, while Pahl was elected mayor of the City of Barstow.

High School juniors, selected by their schools and community members, are attending Badger Boys State and spending eight days learning about all aspects of Wisconsin's city, county and state government. With the assistance of over 100 volunteer counselors, staff, and numerous prominent speakers, these young men learn everything from operating efficient government offices, passing ordinances, and balancing a budget.

Monday also marked the start of Badger Boys State's Schools of Instruction, a series of topics taught by our talented staff and volunteers. Students are able to discuss either the career choice or the staff's passion in the fields of law, peace officer, leadership, public speaking, environmental ecology, any many more.
