Richland Center High School Sea Perch Fundraising

In just over a month, a contingent from Richland Center High School will represent the state of Wisconsin in Baton Rouge, Louisiana during the annual SeaPerch underwater robotics competition at LSU.

14 RCHS students will leave on a bus May 19th for a 5-day trip. A significant amount of fundraising to make the trip possible has already taken place, with more funds still needed to cover the group's expenses. Any contributions can be made at Richland Center High School or via the Friends of Science page on the Richland School District Foundation website.

The SeaPerch students will also be doing fundraisers at local businesses in the coming weeks. A brat stand will take place at Gordy's Market this Saturday (April 16) from 11:00 until 3:00. There will also be a Papa Murphy's “Share Night” next Wednesday, April 20th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM; a “Share Night” at Pizza Hut on Tuesday, April 26th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM; and also at Culvers on Wednesday, May 4th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.

According to Richland Center Chemistry & Physics instructor Zak Dray, the students are back at work on their projects after winning the Southwest Wisconsin Regional SeaPerch at Kickapoo High School in February. The teams are working on designing and producing their electronic poster board presentations; and soon they will start adapting their robots to the obstacle course and new underwater challenge that will be at the national competition. Dray said they are also building new obstacles and challenges so that we can be prepared for the national competition. The 6th annual National SeaPerch Challenge will be held on May 20th and 21st at Louisiana State University. Over 150 teams from across the country are expected to compete.
