Lone Rock School Closure Opposition Meeting February 18th
The news in January that the River Valley School District is considering a host of changes that would result in the closure of Lone Rock Elementary School has not set well with all residents in the district.
A recently-formed group of residents dubbed the “Truth Committee” is considering options in an effort to prevent the plan from becoming reality.
The recommendation being considered by the school board came from the River Valley Administrative Team. It calls for moving Pre-K through 3rd grade students at both Lone Rock Elementary and Plain Elementary to Spring Green Elementary School beginning in the fall. It also includes moving 4th and 5th grade students at Lone Rock and Spring Green elementaries to Plain. The end result of the consolidation would be the closure of Lone Rock Elementary.
The plan to close Lone Rock Elementary has caught the attention of other communities. In addition to Lone Rock, the Village Board in Plain has approved a resolution opposing River Valley’s plan. The Village of Arena has also scheduled a vote on an identical resolution.
Tonight’s community meeting will take place at the Lone Rock Community Building beginning at 7:00 PM. River Valley Board school board member Brice McCauley has pledged to be in attendance.
