Richland County Point-in-Time Homeless Event

An important effort is set to take place again later this month in Richland County.

The winter point-in-time count of homeless residents is set for the evening of Wednesday, January 27th and volunteers are being sought. Organized by the Southwest Community Action Program, the tally goes a long way in determining resource allocation for local communities.

Chelsea Wunnicke, Richland County UW-Extension Family Living Agent, said homelessness is not just a problem in larger urban settings.

In addition to those who have been counted during the point-in-time effort, there are dozens of students in the Richland School District who are registered as “homeless”. Wunnicke said that while the fight is ongoing, Richland County has positioned itself well to help those in need.

Those who would like to volunteer for Richland County's point-in-time count of homeless residents on January 27th should call Kelsey Smith at the Southwest CAP office at (608) 935-2623, or Richland County UW-Extension at 647-6148. Volunteers should plan for several hours that night beginning at 6:00 PM.
